Unlocking Academic Success: The Power of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for Students

In a series of studies conducted on college students, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has shown promising results in reducing test anxiety and improving academic performance. Canadian psychiatrist Dr. Dan Benor and colleagues conducted a pilot study comparing EFT to other treatments for test anxiety. They found that EFT, along with a Wholistic Hybrid and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), led to significant reductions in test anxiety among university students. Notably, EFT and the Wholistic Hybrid achieved similar benefits to CBT but in fewer sessions, suggesting a potentially quicker treatment effect.

Additionally, EFT has been compared to diaphragmatic breathing for test anxiety reduction. In a study with 168 university students, both EFT and diaphragmatic breathing groups reported significant decreases in test anxiety levels compared to a control group. While the breathing group showed higher increases in self-care behaviors, the EFT group demonstrated a significant reduction in anxiety levels, indicating the effectiveness of EFT in managing test anxiety.

Furthermore, a comparison study with a sham tapping group found that EFT significantly reduced stress symptoms compared to sham tapping. Another study focusing on presentation anxiety among university students revealed that those who used EFT received higher grades and experienced a significant reduction in anxiety scores compared to those who did not.

Moreover, research on high school students has shown that EFT can effectively reduce anxiety levels and enhance academic performance. EFT interventions with high-ability students led to significant reductions in anxiety levels compared to a waitlist control group.

In summary, EFT has demonstrated promising results in reducing anxiety and improving academic performance among college and high school students. These findings suggest that EFT could be a valuable tool for addressing test anxiety and other stress-related challenges in educational settings.
