Canadian psychiatrist Dr. Dan Benor and colleagues conducted a pilot study comparing EFT to other treatments for test anxiety. They found that EFT, along with a Wholistic Hybrid and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), led to significant reductions in test anxiety among university students. Notably, EFT and the Wholistic Hybrid achieved similar benefits to CBT but in fewer sessions, suggesting a potentially quicker treatment effect.

Additionally, EFT has been compared to diaphragmatic breathing for test anxiety reduction. In a study with 168 university students, both EFT and diaphragmatic breathing groups reported significant decreases in test anxiety levels compared to a control group. Moreover, research on high school students has shown that EFT can effectively reduce anxiety levels and enhance academic performance. EFT interventions with high-ability students led to significant reductions in anxiety levels compared to a waitlist control group.

Your subconscious mind is running your life.

It all begins with an idea.

Did you know that your mind is actually made up of two separate minds: both the conscious and subconscious? Cellular Biologist, Dr Bruce Lipton (1) states that together, they create what he calls the “body’s controlling voice”. The conscious part is the one that can think freely and creates new ideas, whereas the subconscious part is essentially a programmed database of our behaviours, thoughts and emotions, the majority of which we would seem to have acquired before the age of 7 and is totally without reason or logic and without judgement or criticism. According to scientific research, it would appear that your subconscious mind is responsible for an incredible 95% of your brain’s activity, whilst the conscious mind; those cognitive abilities: decisions, thoughts, actions and behaviours in your conscious awareness is responsible for only 5% (2)

Indeed, your subconscious, which is largely run on automatic pilot mode, is now seen as the major player in your mind and is clearly running the show of your daily life. Every bit of it is guided by your subconscious beliefs and interpretations. It seems we really actually do most things without ‘thinking’. The way we talk to ourselves, the way we handle stressful life situations and the reason we respond the way we respond when triggered by events is likely due to an automated programme installed in our early years, even from the time in utero. It is our conditioned response, so even when we think we are being conscious, it is probably more truthful that our subconscious mind is making our decisions for us. 

Now that you’re an adult, you know you want to change and transform your negative behavior and thought patterns and you desire to change your limiting beliefs and truly heal your life but for some reason no matter how many positive affirmations you keep telling yourself on a daily basis, nothing really seems to change. The problem being as you now realise, 95% of that stuff that keeps playing out for you is preprogrammed and out of your cognitive control and most of that is negative but you don’t really know or understand what’s happening because it’s completely invisible to the conscious mind. In short, your subconscious mind has been pre-programmed to follow a specific route and you can’t deviate from that route unless you change the directions programmed into it first.

No wonder it feels impossible.

The beliefs we have about ourselves were  formed in our subconscious before the age of seven.

It all begins with an idea.

The subconscious mind runs much of your life and yet you probably don’t know much about it. It is a data bank for all that is not in your conscious mind; it is where rituals and beliefs are stored. 

Until the age of seven, the subconscious is incredibly busy, taking in everything it is seeing, hearing, and feeling. Like a sponge, it is soaking up and storing every message it is receiving. 

It is in these years that the script of how you will operate in the future is being formed. So mastering the subconcious is vital, if you are to have a happy life, free from negative impulses.

The analogy I often think of in my clinic, when I am speaking to a client who is describing feeling like a prisoner to a certain type of negative behaviour or impulse, is that of a computer. 

The client will describe feeling trapped or powerless to a certain way of thinking or behaving. 

But think about the computer analogy: When you buy a computer, you are purchasing a powerful operating system, but without the programs, it is useless. 

When you buy the programs, or download them, you are giving that powerful system the rules it will operate under until you upgrade or remove them.

The human brain is the same. So, the messages you receive up until the age of seven are vitally important to how you will operate in the future, because you will always default to those early beliefs or ideas that your brain downloaded into your subconscious. 

That is why people can be perplexed about their behaviour or thoughts. Obviously, they can’t remember receiving the messages or beliefs that govern their life, and so they have difficulty comprehending how they have got themselves into a bind, when their conscious mind knows what they should do, and yet, time after time, they do the opposite.

The good news is that you can reprogram your brain. You are only a prisoner of the subconscious until you become aware of your beliefs. I have so many interesting conversations about this in my clinic.
